wasteful spending of the holidays 2, shark fin antenna

That's a shark fin antenna. Unlike the flashlights that actually have some use, this is purely cosmetic.

My car's stock antenna was this 1.5ft long boingy stick thing. Here's a picture of my car stock showing it.

Here's my car with a shark fin antenna... in the dark.. taken with a crappy cell phone camera.

I guess I can use my old antenna as a pointing stick... or something.

My shark fin isn't perfectly centered... or parallel.. then again, I don't think anyone else's is, and no one can tell anyways. It still bugs me though. I'll find some other day to reattach it better.

wasteful spending of the holidays 1, flashlights

It's that time of the year again, where everything's on sale.

So I bought three flashlights. Yes, three. Who the hell needs a flashlight, much less three of them? Don't ask why, it's complicated and involves woot.com, coupons, and shipping costs.

Oh, and they're those long heavy ones that you can whack people with... so it's not like you can store in your back pocket and pull it out when you drop your car keys. I guess they're useful for power outages.. but even then you only need one per person.

So they use 2 D batteries, has an 3Watt LED bulb, and the light can't be focused/unfocused. Supposedly shockproof, water resistant, and lasts at least 100 hours per set of batteries. Oh, and they're bright.

So here's some pictures comparing various other portable lighting devices I have lying around the house (yeah, I have tons everywhere) shooting light across my pitch black room (~15ft). Taken with a crappy camera phone.

A candle.
Proof of being screwed during power outages.

Those LED keychains I have on every set of keys, and near doors..
Still only great for finding keyholes at point blank.

The 5 LED mini-flashlight that my mom's old LED company gave us, used to be a keychain..
Better at finding keyholes at point blank, and small objects on the floor.

An 2AAA incandescent flashlight that we used to find stuff in the dark, with all the light focused at the center..
Good enough to easily not crash into stuff in the dark. Standard equipment for sewer passages in Resident Evil.

New flashlights..
Hello! Who are you and what the fuck are you doing in my house at night. Whack a hole follows.

Or they're great for finding a fat white dog on a hillside in the middle of the night. Or blinding people.

my finals week, fall09

Well I did little to no studying. Gloomy rainy weather makes me want to sleep in all day.

But here's a post dedicated to all those puddles I had to walk through or around to get to my finals.

and the fat muddy doggy back at home just did this all week.

gamecube controllers!

Look look, my gamecube controllers came with this cardboard robot thing. Isn't it cute?

They're white! Wii-colored. :D

So now I have a whole family of controllers. R.I.P. my other black one, I think it's the oldest one I have. New white one have longer cords, like, almost twice as long as the black/indigo ones. They go everywhere.

Gotta love the box too; completely Japanese with the for sale and use in Japan only warning too. So what happens when its used outside of Japan...? Props to amazon.com for completely ignoring that. :P

foglights!

My bulbs for them came in the mail on Tuesday. :D

Now I'm waiting for the actual lights to get here.. :(

[11/16/2009]
Everything else got here. Then I realized I got the wrong bulbs. The ones I bought are 9006, the ones I need are H11. 9006 bulbs are used on the 's' trims, but everywhere I looked didn't specify between 'i' and 's' trims. So I ordered correct bulbs. But here's a pretty picture of the bulbs I need to sell... taken with my housemate's DSLR cause I need a good picture to sell it with.

and here's all the parts I need for a fog light install. (lookie! new turn signal stalk). Crappy cell phone picture cause it's just for the blog. :P

So now I'll wait another day or two for the correct bulbs to get here, then I'll install. :D

[12/2/2009]
Late update. Installed them with the correct bulbs on 11/27. Bulbs didn't work. Threw in the stock ones and decided to deal with them when I got back home. Then after connecting some things backwards, cause polarity does matter for HID bulbs, but not for halogen bulbs, it works.

my pretty emo wall

I finished this. :D

It was just a lot of tape and mounting pads..

Oh, and I cheaped out and just printed them out with my printer.... my original scans weren't that great, so even on a good printer they quality wouldn't be spectacular.

From my desk I can't even tell anyways.

Spacing them wasn't very fun....

What to do next... what to do next....?
